The 9th Henan Provincial Games for Traditional Minority Sports was grandly held in Zhoukou City from April 22nd to 26th.

In recent years, our university has placed great emphasis on the inheritance and development of traditional ethnic sports. After being awarded the Provincial Demonstration Base for Traditional Ethnic Sports in December 2021, our university has actively promoted traditional ethnic sports on campus. For this competition, we formed a delegation consisting of 22 students, led by Vice President Tang Duoyi as team leader, Wei Jian, Director of the Department of Physical Education, as deputy team leader, Zhang Zhenhua, Director of the Office, as liaison officer, and Ye Hui, Director of the Teaching and Research Section of Art-sports, as coach.

After successfully completing the opening ceremony performance, our university participated in the ethnic fitness competition. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, all participating students used their free time to train diligently and prepare meticulously for the competition. They displayed a strong spirit of sportsmanship, respecting their opponents and abiding by the referee’s decisions, demonstrating the exemplary spirit, positive teamwork, unwavering determination, and high athletic prowess of Central China University of Technology students. After three days of intense competition, our university achieved impressive results among the 18 participating teams, placing 10th in the popularized routine category (2nd among universities) and 8th in the competitive routine category (3rd among universities). Yi student Li Sijia and Lahu student Shi Rui received awards for Sportsmanship, and our university received awards for Excellent Organization and Sportsmanship.

The competition was organized by the Henan Provincial Committee of Ethnic and Religious Affairs and the Henan Provincial Sports Bureau, and hosted by the Zhoukou Municipal Government. A total of 32 delegations and 2615 athletes from across the province participated, making it the largest and most comprehensive traditional ethnic sports event in our province. Our university’s successful completion of the competition demonstrates our unwavering commitment to strengthening the shared sense of identity of the Chinese nation, promoting the great spirit of the Chinese nation, and enhancing cultural confidence. It is also a concrete action by our university to study, disseminate, and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in the field of athletics.
