On the morning of October 26th, a sunny autumn day, Zhongyuan University of Technology(ZUT) grandly opened its 36th Annual Sports Meet at the Longhu Campus. Xia Yuanqing, the Principal , Song Xiaowei, the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of ZUT, Zou Songtao, Vice Principal Huang Jian, Fang Jianyin, Hai Ran, and Qu Boyang, and the Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission Zhang Aihua attended the opening ceremony. Representatives from relevant functional departments, students, and over 2,000 faculty and students participated in the event. Song Xiaowei served as the host for the ceremony.
Xia Yuanqing delivered the opening speech. He pointed out that in the past year, all faculty, staff, and students of the school adhered to Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as guidance, and we are committed to fully implementing the provincial Party Committee’s strategic plan for “Three Adjustments and Optimizations” in higher education and in accordance with the spirit of the speech given by Provincial Party Secretary Lou Yangsheng at the school’s discussion meeting. We closely focused on the fundamental task of establishing Henan University of Electronic Technology, and in accordance with the requirements for high-quality development. And we are accelerating efforts to elevate the quality and effectiveness of our university from within. As a result, the school’s overall strength and core competitiveness have been further enhanced. The school has always placed a high emphasis on sports work, adhering to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discussions on education and sports, as well as the significant speeches from the National Education Conference as guidance. We continuously strengthens and improves the school’s sports work, adhering to the sports teaching philosophy of “Nurturing morality and character, developing individuals through sports, and emphasizing the importance of both physical and moral development,” the school has achieved significant results in educating students. It is hoped that all faculty, staff, and students will enjoy the joy of sports in this sports meet, promote the spirit of sports, feel the power of unity and friendship, and embody the spirit of determination, hard work, resilience, and mutual support.
Fang Jingyong, Director of the Student Affairs Office, announced the criteria for the Sportsmanship Award competition. Yu Xin, a student from Class 211 of School of Architectural Engineering, and Cai Wenfeng, our school’s international-level tennis referee, took the oath on behalf of the athletes and referees, respectively. The Principal Xia Yuanqing officially declared the opening of the Games.
Following the tradition of previous years, the opening ceremony of this year’s Games incorporated an entrance ceremony with group gymnastics performances. The flag-bearing formations - national flag, school flag, and emblem - marched with confidence and vigor, embodying the spirit of ZUT sports. The entrance performances of the 18 participating schools were vibrant and full of enthusiasm, showcasing each college’s unique character and the youthful vitality of the student body. They walked with vigorous steps, accompanied by cheerful melodies, displaying passionate youthful dance moves that showcased the positive, healthy, and sunny spirit of the students of Zhongyuan University of Technology (ZUT). The entrance performances of the 18 participating schools were vibrant and full of enthusiasm, showcasing each college’s unique character and the youthful vitality of the student body. 254 faculty members from the school’s 27 branches presented an exciting colorful ball cheer-leading performance. With their varied formations and skilled teamwork, they perfectly showcased the combination of strength and artistic beauty, filled with energy and vitality, earning rounds of applause and cheers from the audience.
Following the opening ceremony, athletes immediately launched into intense competition. The athletic field was abuzz with excitement and fervor. With unwavering determination, the athletes pushed themselves beyond their limits, leaving their sweat on the field as they fought for victory. The referees, dedicated to their duty, ensured fair and impartial judgement, guaranteeing smooth and just outcomes for all competitions. Youth volunteers from the school’s Volunteer Team and the Referee Committee worked tirelessly, providing attentive service and contributing their youthful energy to the success of the event. Teachers, students, and spectators cheered and supported the athletes from the sidelines. And the faculty and students of the ZUT shone with passion and energy, pursuing their dreams through hard work and effort.
After two days of intense competition, the 36th Annual Sports Meet of our school concluded successfully on the afternoon of October 27th. The School of Energy and Environment, the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, the School of Economics and Management, the School of Costume, the School of Electronic Information, the School of Art and Design, the School of Software (Kunpeng Academy), and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering won the top eight places in the overall team score. The School of Electronic Information, the School of Energy and Environment, the School of Journalism and Communication, the School of Computer Science, the School of Art and Design, the School of Textile Engineering, the School of Software (Kunpeng Academy), and the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering were awarded the Sportsmanship Award.
Song Xiaowei delivered the closing remarks and declared the Games officially closed. He hopes that all faculty and students will carry the spirit of courage in competition, tenacity in struggle, teamwork, and consideration for the overall situation, which has been ignited during this sports meeting, into their daily studies and work. Under the correct leadership of the school’s Party committee and administration, they should strive forward with determination and vigor, working hard to create a new landscape for the school’s high-quality development and contribute their efforts to the establishment of Henan University of Electronic Technology at a high standard.
