In the vibrant and thriving April, on the morning of April 18th, the 37th Sports Meeting of Zhongyuan University of Technology (ZUT) kicked off grandly at its Longhu Campus. Jia Shaoxin, Secretary of the Party Committee, Xia Yuanqing, President, Song Xiaowei and Zou Songtao, Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee, Fang Jianyin, Fu Zhumu, and Yang Kun, Vice Presidents, attended the opening ceremony, along with heads of relevant functional departments, deans of various schools, and over 2,000 faculty and student representatives. Xia Yuanqing delivered the opening address. He pointed out that in the past year, the entire faculty and students of ZUT have adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, conscientiously implemented the provincial Party committee’s “Three Adjustments and Optimizations” strategic plan for higher education and the spirit of the speech made by Provincial Party Secretary Lou Yangsheng during his visit to the school’s symposium. Centering around the preparation for the establishment of Henan University of Electronic Technology, and in accordance with the requirements for high-quality development, we have accelerated the enhancement of internal construction, further strengthening the school’s comprehensive strength and core competitiveness. The school has always attached great importance to sports work, guided by General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on education and sports, and continuously strengthened and improved the school’s sports work. He expressed his hope that all faculty and students would enjoy the fun of sports, promote the spirit of sports, carry forward the spirit of perseverance, tenacity, unity, and mutual assistance, feel joy in sports, pursue excellence in happiness, and jointly create a better future for Zhongyuan University of Technology!
Ma Kai, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, announced the criteria for evaluating the Sports Morality and Ethics Award. Jiang Hao, a student from the Textile Engineering Class of 2021 Excellence Program, and Cai Wenfeng, an international-level tennis referee from our school, took oaths on behalf of the athletes and referees, respectively. Jia Shaoxin declared the opening of the sports meeting.
The opening ceremony of this sports meeting continued to combine the entrance ceremony with group gymnastics performances. The national flag, school flag, and emblem contingents marched firmly and looked dashing, interpreting the spirit of ZUT. The entrance performances from 19 colleges across the school were enthusiastic and ingenious, highlighting professional characteristics and showcasing youthful vitality. 320 students from the 2023 grade presented a group gymnastics performance titled “China in the Lights,” where they danced gracefully and elegantly at times, demonstrating the positive, healthy, and sunny youth of ZUT students through their passionate youth dances. 260 faculty members from 28 school branches performed a fantastic line dance titled “Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China,” stepping lively and dancing to the rhythm of youth in the classic red song, perfectly presenting the united, forward-looking, and positive spirit of our faculty. ZUT faculty and students presented their passionate youth dances, full spirit, and high fighting spirit to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
After the opening ceremony, the athletes threw themselves into intense competitions. The sports field was bustling with excitement. The athletes competed fiercely, surpassed themselves, and freely sweated and strived for the best on the field. The referees were conscientious and fair in their judgments, ensuring the smooth and just progress of each event. Volunteers from the school's Youth Volunteer Corps and the Referee Committee were conscientious and dedicated, contributing their youth to the successful holding of the sports meeting. Faculty and student spectators cheered and drummed for the athletes by the sports field. ZUT faculty and students shone with passion and vitality, pursuing their dreams with struggle and perseverance.
After two days of intense competition, the 37th Sports Meeting of our school concluded successfully on the afternoon of April 19th. The College of Energy and Environment, the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering (Integrated Circuits), the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, the School of Art and Design, the School of Information and Communication Engineering, the School of Architectural Engineering, the School of Textile Engineering, the School of Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence), and the Zhongyuan Petersburg Aviation (Intelligent Perception and Instrumentation) School ranked in the top nine in the overall group score. The School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, the College of Energy and Environment, the School of Art and Design, the School of Law (Intellectual Property School), the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering (Integrated Circuits), the School of Software (Kunpeng Academy), the Zhongyuan Petersburg Aviation (Intelligent Perception and Instrumentation) School, and the School of Journalism and Communication won the Sports Morality and Ethics Award.
Fu Zhumu delivered the closing speech and announced the closing of the sports meeting. He hoped that all faculty and students would apply the spirit of competition, perseverance, unity, and cooperation demonstrated during the sports meeting to their future studies and work. Under the correct leadership of the school’s Party committee and administration, they should strive forward vigorously and courageously, work hard to create a new situation of high-quality development for the school, and contribute their own strength to the high-standard preparation for the establishment of Henan University of Electronic Science and Technology!
